I thank God for His grace towards me. I got admitted to the university in 2002 for my first degree. It was going to be a whole new experience to me as I was schooling outside the state where I was born and had been all my life. I had a plan all mapped out.
I had heard a lot about university life and I was going to make sure I lived it to the full. No where in that plan was God.
My first few months at the university worked out as planned. I made some friends and we were "rocking" the campus.
We used to hang out every night and life seemed on the fab lane. Then on the 5th of July 2003, my life changed. I had seen posters around campus about a program (Freshers' Classique) being organised by Believers' LoveWorld campus fellowship in my school, University of Benin. Well, it never got my attention.
The program was scheduled to commence at 5pm at the school auditorium. Around this time, I was to hook up with some of my gang members down-town, as was our usual practice. I tried to get a bus which would take me to the school gate but I couldn't get any. My best bet was to take a short route, through the school's auditorium and get to the gate.
I decided to take it and lo, while I passed the auditorium, I heard people shouting in joy.
Now, I had been on campus for a few months and I knew that the only time people shouted like that that was when an artiste was performing at an event (musical events). I hurriedly ran to the auditorium to find out who it was. When I got in, I saw a man in suit, and to my amazement, he wasn't singing or cracking jokes.
He was preaching! I wondered to my self, why the excitement? Before now, church was that boring place you go to where guilt takes a better part of you. But here I was, and as he spoke about Jesus Christ, people screamed in joy, some with tears in their eyes. I took a seat and listened to this artiste, as he kept on preaching about the love of Christ.
Tears welled up in my eyes and immediately the call for salvation was made, I ran to the altar and received Christ into my life.
That same day, I got filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke in other tongues. My life had been changed. I kept attending meetings and kept growing in the word. The zeal for God's house consumed me.
I didn't even know when I broke off from my crew. I just kept burning for God. God had redesigned my plan.
I spent six fulfilled years at the university.
I won souls, got many filled with the Holy Ghost, ministered to the sick and kept waxing stronger in the word. Today, I see my seed and I'm grateful to God for using me to reach out to them. My heartfelt gratitude goes to two people that made a lasting impact in my life at the university- @ Pastor Afolabi Oketunji , the artiste, whose "performance" got me saved, and @Pastor Oge Pearl Onyia , who brought me up strong in the word. God bless you both.
